Egypt dispatched its 96th humanitarian convoy to the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, delivering 9,800 tons of emergency assistance to Palestinians amid ongoing Israeli strikes and severe winter conditions.

The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC), which coordinates aid delivery to Gaza, said the convoy includes 5,500 tons of food baskets, 3,500 tons of medical and relief supplies, and 800 tons of fuel.

It also carries winter relief items to help Gaza’s population cope with harsh weather, including 14,200 blankets, 21,400 winter clothing items, and 15,800 tents.

This shipment is part of Egypt's "Zad Al-Ezza" initiative, launched on 27 July, as part of Cairo's commitment to help alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza.

The initiative's aid deliveries have included food, water, medicines, medical equipment, hygiene kits, shelter materials, baby formula and diapers, as well as ambulances and fuel trucks.

The latest dispatch comes amid renewed Israeli attacks across Gaza, despite the ceasefire agreement mediated in October by Egypt, the US, Qatar, and Turkey.

On Tuesday, heavy rainfall flooded shelters for displaced families, washing away hundreds of fragile tents after days of extreme weather.

Many residents are living in makeshift shelters without adequate blankets or winter clothing, leaving children and families exposed to cold and rain.

This week, the Palestinian Meteorological Department warned of flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas, as well as slippery roads, reduced visibility, and fluctuating temperatures.

Ongoing Israeli airstrikes, lack of food, harsh winter conditions, and mass displacement have worsened an already severe humanitarian crisis in the strip.

On 22 August, the UN declared a famine in Gaza, the first in the Middle East.

Since Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza, Egypt has remained Gaza's primary lifeline, delivering more than 45,000 trucks, carrying over 660,000 tons of humanitarian supplies, which represents around 70 percent of all aid entering the strip.
