The Church reaffirmed that "its work in Egypt is a patriotic service, spanning nearly two centuries through its churches and institutions in the service of humanity and society.”
It also reiterated its commitment to human rights and peace, noting that it will continue to defend the legitimate rights of all peoples and advocate for “a just and lasting peace, based on justice and the preservation of human dignity.”
“We pray that peace be realised in Palestine, our region and the world at large.”
The church's statement comes two days after anchor Hind El-Dawy on her program on Al-Qahera W Al-Nas ran a lengthy news feature detailing the mass and media mobilization campaigns launched by Christian Zionists and born-again Evangelicals who support Israel in the US to improve the image of Tel Aviv in the West in light of growing global condemnation of its genocidal war on Gaza.
The Evangelical Church of Egypt, which represents 1-2 percent of the country's Christian community, has repeatedly condemned the Israeli war and blockade on Gaza and the targeting of churches, and contributed to national efforts to send humanitarian aid to the strip.
