The Pharaohs will be facing the Warriors on Monday night at Morocco’s Stade Adrar in Agadir in the opening match of the African Cup of Nations group stage.
“The whole team is only concentrated on Zimbabwe game. All players are ready to open the campaign with a victory,” the Ahly winger said in the pre-match press conference on Sunday.
“Wearing Egypt’s jersey is an honor for any player. I reached the AFCON final twice before, and I hope we will win the title this time,” the 31-year-old former Anderlecht and Aston Villa player added.
The seven-time African champions, Egypt, seeking their first continental title since 2010, were drawn in Group B with South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe.
Trezeguet stressed that all players vowed to do their best to win the tournament and please Egyptian fans.
“Every game in the AFCON is like a cup final. Egypt team includes the best players in Africa,” he concluded.
Egypt reached the AFCON final in 2017 and 2021, losing to Cameroon and Senegal, respectively.
On the other side, Zimbabwe, who made just six appearances at the prestigious continental tournament, had their last appearance in the 2021 edition, where they were eliminated during the first round.
