Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held separate phone calls on Wednesday with his Greek and Cypriot counterparts to discuss trilateral cooperation and regional development. Discussions focused on migration management and the deteriorating situation in Gaza and the West Bank, according to the Egyptian foreign ministry.

In his call with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, Abdelatty discussed irregular migration across the Mediterranean, including coordination on border management and the implementation of an agreement allowing the recruitment of Egyptian seasonal workers in Greece.

Abdelatty also raised the sinking of a migrant boat south of Crete earlier this month that killed 14 Egyptian nationals, expressing hope that Greek authorities would continue facilitating the return of the victims’ bodies to Egypt.

The two ministers discussed developments in Gaza, where Abdelatty stressed the need to ensure the implementation of United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2803 and allow an International Stabilization Force (ISF) to carry out its mandate. He said this was necessary to sustain the ceasefire and move towards a second phase of the agreement.

Abdelatty also called for unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza and preparations for early recovery and reconstruction, while condemning Israeli settlement expansion and settler violence in the occupied West Bank. Both sides stressed the need to strengthen the Palestinian Authority (PA) and accelerate the transfer of Palestinian tax revenues withheld by Israel, according to the Egyptian statement.

The Egyptian foreign minister separately spoke with Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, where the two discussed coordination ahead of Cyprus assuming the presidency of the EU Council next month, as well as Egypt’s relations with the European Union.

Abdelatty highlighted cooperation on labour mobility, including the employment of Egyptian workers in Cyprus, and broader economic and investment ties. He also emphasised the role of the Egypt-Greece-Cyprus trilateral mechanism in regional cooperation, particularly in energy, trade, and transport.

On Gaza, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s efforts to consolidate the ceasefire and push forward second-phase arrangements, including proposals for a temporary Palestinian technocratic committee to prepare for the PA's return to governance in the strip.

He also rejected any measures undermining Palestinian territorial unity or altering realities in the West Bank, again condemning settlement expansion and settler attacks on Palestinians.

In a post on X, Kombos said the talks also covered Egypt-EU relations and confirmed agreement to hold a trilateral ministerial meeting between Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus in Cairo in the near future.
