The ceremony was attended by Djibouti’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Dr. Younis Ali Jideh, Minister of Infrastructure and Equipment Hassan Hamad Ibrahim, Egyptian Ambassador to Djibouti Abdelrahman Raafat, and several local officials and parliamentarians.
The solar station, with a peak capacity of 300 kilowatts and an energy storage system of 1.29 megawatt-hours, is designed to provide clean and sustainable electricity to residents, improving the quality of life and supporting local economic activities.
The project reflects Egypt’s continued commitment to supporting African development through knowledge transfer, capacity building, and practical, implementable solutions in key sectors such as renewable energy and infrastructure.

Al-Wazir said the project represents a tangible outcome of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Djibouti in April 2025, which aimed to deepen bilateral cooperation in priority areas, including energy, industrial development, and green economy initiatives.
He added that the project underlines the strategic vision shared by both countries to support sustainable development in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea region, highlighting that regional stability and prosperity are mutual strategic interests.

Dr. Younis Ali Jideh welcomed the inauguration, noting the rapid execution of the project just months after its groundbreaking, and praised the technical support and innovative solutions provided by Egyptian institutions, including the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development (EAPD), the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI), and the Arab Renewable Energy Company (ARECO), with technical support from partners such as Huawei.
The station is part of a broader Egyptian-Djiboutian partnership in renewable energy and reflects a strategic approach to rural electrification, local industrialisation of clean energy technologies, and the creation of sustainable jobs.
The project also underscores the role of cooperation between Egyptian and Djiboutian institutions in promoting regional development, transferring expertise, and building local capacities in line with sustainable development goals.
