An EgyptAir aircraft takes off from Cairo International Airport
In a statement, EgyptAir said the closure has disrupted its flights, as well as those of other airlines travelling to or through Europe and the United States, noting that Greek airspace is a key corridor for these routes.
The airline said it is taking operational measures to reroute flights around Greek airspace, adding that the process may take time given the strategic importance of the area for flights to Europe and North America.
EgyptAir stressed that it is closely monitoring the situation through its Integrated Operations Control Centre (IOCC) and assessing the impact on flight schedules.
The airline added that it will keep affected passengers informed through its sales channels and customer service offices in Egypt and abroad.
In October, Egyptian Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny said EgyptAir currently operates flights to 82 international destinations from Cairo, four international routes from Alexandria, and six domestic destinations.
During fiscal year 2024/2025, the airline added new destinations, including Zurich, Prague, Mogadishu, Djibouti, Abidjan, Taif, Tabuk, and Misrata.
EgyptAir plans further expansion in fiscal year 2025/2026, serving 85 international destinations from Cairo and five from Alexandria, with new additions such as Venice, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
The airline expects to operate 42,854 flights during the year, carrying around 11.88 million passengers and offering 16.2 million seats.
