Cameroon forward Christian Kofane said on Thursday his side will remain calm against hosts Morocco in their Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal, playing down the impact of a partisan crowd on the Indomitable Lions.
Hosts Morocco face Cameroon on Friday in the quarterfinals of the ongoing Nations Cup, with the Atlas Lions aiming to lift the continental title on home soil.
The match will be played in front of a capacity crowd at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium in the Moroccan capital, but the Bayer Leverkusen striker said his team would be able to cope with the expected pressure.
“I play in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen, and I think the number of Borussia Dortmund fans is bigger than Morocco,” Kofane told reporters on Thursday.
“So we are not afraid of the massive presence of Moroccan fans. We will stay calm and do what we have worked on during the past week.”
The 19-year-old, who made his senior international debut against Ivory Coast in the group stage of this Nations Cup, has scored twice in the tournament, including one goal in Cameroon’s 2-1 round-of-16 victory over South Africa.
Morocco reached the quarterfinals after edging Tanzania 1-0.
