Egypt’s National Media Authority (NMA) has announced its return to scripted television production, ending a ten-year hiatus and marking a significant shift in the state-supported programming approach ahead of the 2026 Ramadan drama season.

The Authority’s production arm, Maspero, will spearhead the comeback with Justice Within, a 15-episode psychological thriller co-produced with Xylophone Film Production under the leadership of producer Awad Maher.

The project was selected from 53 submissions by a 12-member committee of industry professionals, positioning the series as both a test case for reviving Maspero’s production capabilities and a central element of broader reforms in Egypt’s national broadcasting system.

Filming is scheduled to begin in January 2026, with the presence of Ahmed El Moslemany, President of the NMA, along with senior officials from the organization.

The timing underscores the continued importance of Ramadan as the peak period for Arabic-language television drama.

Justice Within is slated to air on Egypt’s national channels during Ramadan 2026, with discussions ongoing for regional digital distribution and potential international streaming with subtitles.

Producer Awad Maher described the series as a step toward modernization.

“Justice Within represents modernization in the evolution of Egyptian drama. It reflects a renewed production mindset that speaks to contemporary audiences while preserving the scale and responsibility of national television,” he stated.

El Moslemany emphasized that the series is part of a structural shift rather than a symbolic return. “This is not a one-off production. The return of Maspero’s production arm is part of a broader effort to modernize Egyptian television drama and restore its competitive position regionally and internationally.”
