The decision terminates all existing accords with the UAE government, including those involving Somali government agencies, affiliated entities, and regional administrations, the Somali National News Agency (SONNA) reported.
It applies to agreements related to the ports of Berbera, Bosaso, and Kismayo, as well as all bilateral security and defence cooperation arrangements between the two countries.
The cabinet said the move followed a review of recent developments and was taken under its constitutional authority. It cited what it described as reports and evidence of actions that undermine Somalia’s sovereignty, national unity, and political independence.
According to the statement, such actions violate principles of sovereignty and non-interference and contravene Somalia’s constitutional system, as well as commitments under the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and Arab League (AL) charters.
The government said the measures also contradict the will of the Somali people, who it said reject any actions that threaten the country’s unity and independence.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was instructed to formally notify the UAE of the decision and coordinate the implementation of the measures. The ministry will also inform international and regional partners, including the UN and AU.
The statement said Somalia retains full sovereign authority over its territory, ports, security affairs, and foreign relations, adding that the government remains open to international cooperation based on mutual respect and recognition of its sovereignty.
