According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, FM Abdelatty and Fidan discussed efforts to consolidate the ceasefire and move forward with the next phase of a US-backed plan.

The two ministers also underscored the importance of forming an international stabilization force per UN Security Council Resolution 2803, ensuring the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, and launching early recovery and reconstruction efforts, according to the statement.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s rejection of any measures that could undermine the unity of Palestinian territory, including ongoing Israeli violence and violations in the West Bank.

The ministers also discussed the Horn of Africa and expressed firm opposition to Israeli recognition of the breakaway region of “Somaliland.”

Abdelatty said such recognition violates international law and the UN Charter and threatens regional and international peace and security. He reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for Somalia’s unity and sovereignty and its rejection of any unilateral actions that could destabilize the country.

The talks also covered developments in Sudan, where Abdelatty stressed the need to work toward a humanitarian truce that would lead to a comprehensive ceasefire, while safeguarding Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity and supporting its national institutions.

The Egyptian FM stressed the need to establish safe corridors, ensure humanitarian aid access and protect civilians, in a separate call with his Qatari counterpart,

In another phone call with Hussein Al Sheikh, Abdelatty reviewed the outcomes of their recent meeting in Cairo and discussed steps to advance to the second phase of the Gaza plan.

Abdelatty reiterated Cairo’s full support for the Palestinian Authority (PA) as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people and stressed the need to enable it to carry out its responsibilities across the Palestinian territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip.

For his part, Al Sheikh praised Egypt’s central role and close coordination, commending its continued support for the PA and its national efforts.

He stressed the importance of reaching a just and comprehensive settlement to the Palestinian issue in line with international legitimacy resolutions, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
