Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said on Tuesday that regional stability depends on a political settlement leading to an independent Palestinian state along the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, during a phone call with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul.

According to Egypt’s foreign ministry, Abdelatty stressed the need to move to the second phase of the ceasefire agreement—brokered by Cairo, Doha, Ankara, and Washington, D.C.—which calls for the formation of a temporary Palestinian technocratic committee to administer civilian affairs in the Gaza Strip.

He also urged the establishment of an International Stabilization Force (ISF) under United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2803, while emphasizing the importance of ensuring continued humanitarian access to Gaza.

The call came as diplomatic efforts continue over Gaza’s post-war governance and security arrangements, amid ongoing humanitarian and political uncertainty in the enclave.

The two ministers also discussed Egyptian-German relations. Abdelatty described Germany as one of Egypt’s key partners and pointed to the recent launch of a foreign minister-level political consultation mechanism as evidence of closer coordination between Cairo and Berlin.

He said Egypt hopes to expand cooperation with Germany in the coming period, particularly in economic and investment sectors, according to the ministry.
