Lamamra underlined Egypt’s political and humanitarian efforts, including its hosting of large numbers of Sudanese since the outbreak of the Sudanese conflict in April 2023.
According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, the UN envoy underscored Cairo’s active role in supporting initiatives aimed at achieving a ceasefire and working with international partners to create suitable conditions for launching an inclusive political process, contributing to ending the suffering of the Sudanese people and enhancing prospects for stability.
Abdelatty, for his part, reviewed Egypt’s stance on the Sudanese crisis, reaffirming Cairo’s steadfast support for Sudan during this critical phase of its history.
Additionally, Abdelatty reaffirmed Cairo’s steadfast commitment to Sudan during this critical historical juncture. He detailed Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic communications aimed at securing a humanitarian truce and a lasting ceasefire.
The top Egyptian diplomat emphasized that preserving Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions is a fundamental pillar for any sustainable recovery.
Abdelatty also underscored Egypt’s continued humanitarian support for the Sudanese people, noting the hosting of large numbers of Sudanese on Egyptian territory.
He affirmed that Cairo would continue to shoulder its humanitarian and historical responsibilities towards Sudan and its people.
The Egyptian FM welcomed the UN envoy’s participation in the fifth Consultative Meeting on Enhancing Coordination of Peace Initiatives and Efforts for Sudan, taking place in Cairo on Wednesday.
He voiced hope that the outcomes of the meeting will contribute to advancing international efforts to restore peace and stability in Sudan, in coordination with regional and international partners, primarily the Quad mechanism.
