Egypt FM commends cooperation with NATO during meeting with alliance envoy

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty praised on Tuesday the current level of cooperation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) during talks in Cairo with the alliance’s Special Representative for the Southern Neighbourhood, Javier Colomina.

According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty affirmed the importance of exchanging assessments with NATO regarding the growing challenges and threats facing the region.

He welcomed ongoing efforts to launch and activate partnership programmes to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Additionally, the FM expressed interest in enhancing collaboration with NATO and benefiting from its expertise in multiple fields. He praised the ongoing efforts to hold the first round of counterterrorism dialogue with NATO, as well as a bilateral expert workshop on mine clearance.

He also underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation in capacity building and knowledge transfer, particularly in counterterrorism, cybersecurity, mine clearance, and climate change.

Abdelatty also reviewed the capabilities of the Cairo International Centre for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding, which provides valuable contributions to capacity building in Africa, especially in countering extremist ideologies in the Sahel region, looking forward to further strengthen cooperation in the field of capacity building.
