In a step to strengthen bilateral relations, a high-level Indian delegation led by Raja Bhanu, director general of the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) and supported by Indian Ambassador to Egypt Suresh K. Reddy, met with key players in Egypt’s pharmaceutical sector on 12 January.

The meeting aimed to expand cooperation between the two countries in healthcare and pharmaceuticals, marking an important development in trade and investment ties.

The Indian delegation, which included senior figures from the pharmaceutical industry, explored opportunities for joint ventures, technology transfer, and capacity building in Egypt’s growing pharmaceutical market.

The Egyptian market is expected to grow from $5.1 billion in 2024–2025 to $5.7 billion in 2025–2026, offering strong potential in areas such as generic medicines, biosimilars, and vaccines, where Indian companies have extensive experience.

Ambassador Reddy expressed confidence in the expanding partnership, saying, “India has long been a trusted partner in the global pharmaceutical industry, and Egypt’s dynamic healthcare sector presents an ideal opportunity for enhanced cooperation.”

“The embassy is committed to facilitating partnerships between Indian pharmaceutical companies and their Egyptian counterparts, ensuring that the benefits of our collaboration are felt not only in our two countries but across the broader MENA region,” he added.

Raja Bhanu highlighted India’s ability to support Egypt’s pharmaceutical ambitions, noting that India is known for producing high-quality, affordable medicines.

“As Egypt continues to expand its healthcare coverage and local manufacturing capabilities, Indian companies are well-positioned to collaborate with Egyptian firms, contributing to the shared goal of ensuring access to essential healthcare products for all citizens,” said Bhanu.

The cooperation will cover areas including generic drugs, clinical research, biotechnology, and vaccine production. Both sides aim to explore joint manufacturing and research projects to help position Egypt as a regional hub for pharmaceutical production and trade.

The meeting marked the launch of several initiatives designed to encourage investment, promote knowledge sharing, and advance healthcare innovation.
