The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) dispatched the 116th “Zad Al-Izza” convoy to the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, carrying over 211,000 food parcels and 25,000 blankets as part of Egypt’s continued humanitarian efforts to support the Palestinian people amid heavy rainfall and worsening weather.

The convoy, sent during heavy rain, includes trucks carrying around 1,000 tons of flour, about 1,080 tons of medical, relief, and personal-care supplies, five tons of water, and approximately 1,415 tons of petroleum products, an ERC statement said.

To respond to the bad weather and low-pressure system affecting Gaza, the ERC increased deliveries of winter essentials, including approximately 43,080 winter clothing items, 25,135 blankets, 240 mattresses, and 1,225 tents for affected families.

According to statements, a Rafah crossing official said 153 trucks passed through on Tuesday alone. This included 36 trucks from United Nations organizations, 47 trucks for the Egyptian camp, 50 trucks from the ERC, three trucks from Qatar, six gas trucks, 10 diesel trucks, and one gasoline truck.

The official added that from 27 July until Tuesday, a total of 22,810 humanitarian and relief trucks crossed from Rafah to Karm Abu Salem crossings under the Zad Al-Izza: From Egypt to Gaza initiative, carrying an estimated 345,000 tons of aid for Gaza residents.

Since the crisis began, 763 fuel trucks have also entered Gaza, delivering more than 225,000 tons of diesel, gas, and gasoline needed to keep hospitals and bakeries operating.

Overall, Egypt has coordinated with 59 countries, processed 943 humanitarian flights and 617 maritime shipments, facilitated the entry of 214 ambulances, supplied about 91,000 tons of fuel, and supported the deployment of four field hospitals.

Aid has continued to flow through the Rafah and Karm Abu Salem crossings for more than 760 consecutive days, coordinated by the ERC and supported by a nationwide logistics network and more than 65,000 volunteers.

Moreover, the ERC’s field teams have stepped up on-the-ground work in Gaza’s camps, including earth-moving, building embankments, and clearing debris from damaged or low-lying areas to protect shelters and residents from flooding.

These efforts are part of a wider emergency plan to improve drainage, reopen critical roads, and enhance safety in areas affected by rubble and damaged infrastructure.

Following directives from President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the ERC has launched a major campaign to support education in Gaza after more than two years of disruption.

The initiative aims to establish schools and learning points across the strip, equipping them with desks, stationery, and tents to create temporary classrooms and ensure continuity of education despite the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

The Egyptian Relief Committee has expanded food assistance in northern Gaza by opening over 40 distribution points to deliver food parcels to the most vulnerable families.

Earlier this week, Mohamed Mansour, committee spokesperson, said the initiative aims to ease severe living conditions, restore a sense of safety, and prevent exploitation and deprivation, noting that Egyptian relief teams have reached far-northwestern and eastern areas of Gaza City near the so-called “yellow line.”

As of December, Egypt has set up 22 relief camps across the Gaza Strip, with 16 already operational, housing about 70,000 displaced families, or roughly 120,000 people.

Six additional camps are under preparation following land allocation and the installation of basic infrastructure such as water wells and electricity.

The camps provide tents, cooked meals, clothing, blankets, and medical care; distribute around 1 million loaves of bread daily; and operate as secure, enclosed sites with defined entry points and community-based security teams.
