The Romanian embassy in Cairo launched a special press kit to showcase the country’s commitment to cultural diplomacy and people-to-people connections.

"The CIBF is the most important event in the Arab world and Africa," Romanian Ambassador to Egypt Olivia Toderean told Ahram Online, highlighting Romania's promotion of its literature globally.

Toderean said Romania is promoting its literature across borders and strengthening its presence on the international cultural scene.

“Through books, authors, ideas, and shared histories, Romania and Egypt reaffirm their long-standing friendship and their commitment to cultural diplomacy,” she added.

Romania’s programme at the fair includes 30 events and 60 guests, focusing on contemporary literature, translations, and cultural dialogue.

At the heart of the programme is “Books for Friends: From the Danube to the Nile,” a cultural journey celebrating literature, translation, dialogue, and people-to-people connections between Romania and Egypt.

She stated that the Romanian pavilion will officially open on 22 January, featuring authors such as Tatiana Gîbuleac, Ioana Pârvulescu, Denisa Comănescu, Matei Vi Vniec, Varoujan Vosganian, Bogdan-Alexandru Stanescu, Catalin Pavel, and Radu Vancu.

Toderean said the programme includes literary debates, book launches (including Arabic translations), professional meetings between editors, academic events, children’s programmes, the photo exhibition "The Unknown Beauty of Romania," and performances of traditional Romanian music and dance.

Romania is also participating in the "Cairo: Intersecting Voices 2" forum, a platform for artistic dialogue and international collaboration.

She highlighted that the press kit provides journalists, partners, and friends of culture with a comprehensive overview of Romania’s participation as Guest of Honour, including key events, messages, and the vision behind the country’s presence at the fair.

Toderean invited Egyptians to explore the press kit and share the story of friendship, cultural diplomacy, creativity, and dialogue between Romania and Egypt, from the Danube to the Nile.
