Egyptian superstar Angham was honoured as Favourite Female Singer at the Joy Awards 2026 in Riyadh on 17 January, with American pop star Katy Perry presenting the award.

Joy Awards

The Joy Awards 2026, held as part of the annual Riyadh Season, brought together entertainers from across the Arab world alongside global icons in music, film, and digital media.

The category featured competition from Arab music heavyweights, including Assala Nasri, Nancy Ajram, and emerging talent Bissan Ismail.

Angham, who recently returned to performing after a period of health challenges, accepted the award with heartfelt thanks to her fans for their ongoing support and loyalty.

Perry’s appearance—both as a performer and award presenter—underscored the Joy Awards’ mission to celebrate Arab achievement while embracing international cultural collaboration. The pop star had earlier energized the audience with a dynamic performance, sharing the stage with other stars, such as Robbie Williams and Millie Bobby Brown, throughout the ceremony.

Now in its sixth year, the Joy Awards have become a major platform for recognising excellence in music, television, film, sports, and digital content across the Arab world.

The evening also highlighted the growing international appeal of the Riyadh-based celebration, as stars from the US, Europe, and Turkey joined Arab artists to honour creative achievements and connect with audiences across the Middle East.

For Angham, receiving the award from an international superstar like Katy Perry not only celebrates her artistic talent but also reflects the Joy Awards’ expanding reach and global prestige.

Angham

Angham was born in 1972 into a family of artists. Her father, Mohamed Ali Soliman, was a composer, violinist, and singer, while her mother was the renowned artist Magda Abdel-Haleem.

She began her career alongside her father in the late 1980s before graduating from the Cairo Conservatory and embarking on an independent artistic path.

Angham has released more than 25 albums, including Fil Rokn El Baeed El Hady (In the Far Distant Corner, 1987), Awal Gawab (First Letter, 1988), Shokran (Thank You, 1989), Shayfak (I See You, 1992), Betheb Meen (Who Do You Love?, 1997), Bahibbik Wahashteeny (Loving You, I Miss You, 2005), Mahaddesh Yehasebni (Do Not Judge Me, 2010), Ahlam Bareaa (Innocent Dreams, 2015), Rah Tezkerny (You Will Remember Me, 2018), Hala Khassa Geddan (Very Special Case, 2019), and Mazh (What?, 2020).

She performs extensively in Egypt and across the Arab world.

In September 2025, Angham performed at London’s Royal Albert Hall, marking a significant cultural milestone as the first Egyptian female artist to grace the iconic stage—58 years after legendary Egyptian singer and musician Abdel Halim Hafez performed there in 1967 and received one of the greatest ovations of his career.
