The Confederation of African Football (CAF) condemned what it described as the unacceptable behaviour of some players and officials during Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 final between Morocco and Senegal in Rabat.

Senegal stunned hosts Morocco to win the prestigious title, with Pape Gueye scoring the only goal in extra time for a 1-0 victory. The match, however, was marred by controversial incidents following a disputed penalty decision.

“CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behaviour during matches, especially those targeting referees or match organizers,” the African football governing body said in a statement on its official website.

Anger erupted among Senegal’s players and fans after the Lions of Teranga were denied a decisive goal in stoppage time of Sunday's 0-0 draw, when the referee called a foul to disallow the goal.

Senegal coach Pape Thiaw also faced criticism for leading his players off the field when Morocco was awarded a stoppage-time penalty, halting the game for nearly 15 minutes.

CAF said it is reviewing all match footage and will refer the matter to relevant disciplinary bodies to take appropriate action against those found guilty.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino also criticized the conduct of Senegal’s team as “unacceptable.”

“The ugly scenes witnessed (Sunday) must be condemned and never repeated,” Infantino wrote on Instagram after attending the game in Rabat. “I expect that the relevant CAF disciplinary bodies will take appropriate measures.”
