In a statement issued on Monday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the agreement could help preserve Syria’s unity, support its security and stability, and protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Cairo reaffirmed its long-standing position that Syria’s unity and territorial integrity must be upheld, and that national state institutions should be supported so they can carry out their responsibilities in maintaining stability and protecting the rights and resources of the Syrian people.

Egypt also stressed the importance of ensuring lasting security and stability for all segments of Syrian society, safeguarding citizens’ rights, and strengthening national unity.

The statement highlighted the need to continue efforts to combat terrorism in all its forms and to address the issue of foreign terrorist fighters, describing both as essential to restoring security and stability in Syria and the wider region.

Egypt said it would continue to support regional and international efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive and lasting political solution to the Syrian crisis.

The agreement between the Syrian government and the Kurdish-led SDF ends nearly two weeks of fighting and is part of a broader deal that will integrate the SDF into Syria’s military and state institutions.

Announced on Sunday, the agreement allows the Syrian army to take control of three eastern and northern governorates, Al-Hasakah, Deir Ezzor, and Raqqa, previously held by the SDF.
