Egypt’s new ambassador to Moscow Hamdy Shaaban with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Ibrahim Kamel, head of the Egyptian-Russian Friendship Association, said he looks forward to activating cooperation between friendship associations in Egypt and Russia, with the support of the Egyptian embassy in Moscow.
Sherif Gad, head of the Egyptian Association of Russian and Soviet University Graduates, also congratulated Ambassador Shaaban. He said that from their first meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cairo, it was clear that the Egyptian state places great importance on developing relations with Russia.
Gad added that the coming period is expected to see a noticeable advance in bilateral cooperation. He said the direction of this cooperation has already begun to take shape since Ambassador Shaaban arrived in Moscow and held meetings with several officials, aimed at improving relations between the two countries.
Egyptian Ambassador to the Russian Federation Hamdy Shaaban presented his credentials to Russian President Vladimir Putin last Thursday.
In remarks delivered during the official ceremony for receiving the credentials of several newly appointed ambassadors, President Putin stressed the special nature of Egyptian-Russian relations, describing Egypt as one of the most important countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
Putin noted that relations between the two countries are based on mutual trust within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement signed in 2018.
He also highlighted Russia’s strong interest in cooperating with Egypt on several major strategic projects, most notably the Dabaa nuclear power plant and the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
In a meeting with the Egyptian ambassador following the ceremony, President Putin expressed his appreciation for the long-standing relationship he shares with President El-Sisi and asked Shaaban to convey his greetings to the Egyptian president.
Egypt and Russia have expanded ties over the past decade across energy, trade, defence, education, and tourism, with flagship projects such as Dabaa underpinning long-term strategic cooperation.
