The 25-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract, keeping him at Ahly until the summer of 2030.

Ahly said El-Gazar has been registered on both the club’s domestic and continental lists and will be eligible to feature in Friday’s Champions League group-stage match at home to Tanzania’s Young Africans.

The club have been seeking defensive reinforcements after conceding 13 goals in 12 league matches this season.

El-Gazar joined NBE Club last summer from Ghazl El-Mahalla before completing his move to Ahly.

He is Ahly’s second signing of the winter transfer window following the arrival of Ceramica Cleopatra striker Marawan Othman on loan until the end of the season.

Moroccan fullback Youssef Belammari is also reportedly close to joining Ahly from Raja Casablanca after the two clubs and the player reached an agreement in principle on a possible transfer.
