The meeting, hosted at the premises of Greece’s Ministry of Shipping, was attended by Secretary General of Shipping and Ports Evangelos Kyriazopoulos and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Egyptian Embassy in Athens, Amr Yousry.

Discussions focused on strengthening institutional and operational coordination in maritime transport and accelerating work on new coastal shipping connections between the two countries.

The Egyptian delegation was led by Admiral Sherif Zakaria, Deputy Head of the Maritime Transport and Logistics Sector at Egypt’s Ministry of Transport. Marwa Zeidan, Director of Bilateral Relations and International Cooperation at the Maritime Transport Sector, also participated, alongside Pan Marine executives led by Vice President Marwan El Shazly.

According to the Greek side, the Port of Patras Authority is expected to sign a cooperation agreement with Pan Marine aimed at developing one or more coastal links with Egyptian ports, reflecting growing interest in creating new passenger and freight routes between Greece and Egypt.

Kikilias underlined the strategic significance of maritime transport in the relationship between Athens and Cairo, pointing to the expanding role the two countries play in global shipping. He also noted that Greece and Egypt face shared regional challenges, including combating irregular migration, an issue on which the two sides maintain close coordination.

As part of the technical programme, the Egyptian delegation is set to visit the ports of Lavrio and Patras and hold meetings with port authorities and senior executives. Greek officials stated that the outcomes of the discussions will support preparations for the upcoming session of the Greece–Egypt Joint Committee on Maritime Affairs, which is scheduled to be held in Alexandria.
