Any to attempt to displace Gazans would drive ‘thousands’ to Europe: El-Sisi

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi warned on Saturday that any attempt to displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip would trigger large-scale irregular migration toward Europe and set off security, economic, and social repercussions that would be impossible to contain.

Speaking at celebrations marking Egypt’s 74th Police Day at the Police Academy Conference Center in New Cairo, El-Sisi said forced displacement from Gaza would amount to the effective liquidation of the Palestinian cause.

“I warn against the displacement of two and a half million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip,” he said. “This would lead to the migration of thousands to Europe and to grave security, economic, and social repercussions that no one can bear.”

El-Sisi described the Gaza ceasefire as “living proof” of Egypt’s efforts to promote regional peace and stability, saying Cairo is pressing for the agreement’s full implementation and working to prevent any attempts to undermine it.

He stressed the need to allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza without obstruction, move forward with the second phase of the ceasefire, and immediately begin reconstruction in the territory. He also praised US President Donald Trump for his role in securing the Israel-Hamas truce, signed on 10 October in the Red Sea resort city, Sharm El-Sheikh.

The president called for an end to what he described as “systematic practices” against Palestinians in the occupied territories and reiterated Egypt’s rejection of any plans to displace them from their land.

El-Sisi also said Egypt opposes any attempts to fragment countries in the region or to establish armed groups or entities operating outside legitimate state institutions and national armies.

Egypt marks Police Day annually on 25 January, commemorating the 1952 Battle of Ismailia, in which 50 police officers were killed and 80 wounded while resisting British forces, which helped spark the 1952 revolution.
