President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on Saturday urged Egypt’s government and parliament to study legislation in the United Kingdom and Australia that restricts children’s use of mobile phones, citing growing concerns over the impact of digital technology on young people.

Speaking during Police Day celebrations, El-Sisi said Australia and Britain have introduced laws limiting or banning phone use below certain ages and called on Egyptian authorities to examine those experiences.

“I want to remind myself, the government, and the parliament in Egypt that the Australians and the British have enacted legislation to limit or prohibit phone use below a certain age,” he said.

El-Sisi said the government must look at how other countries are protecting children “until they reach an age where they can handle it properly,” pointing to artificial intelligence as a new and urgent challenge.

His remarks come amid wider concerns over the misuse of technology, particularly the rapid development of AI tools, which he warned could be used to fabricate scenarios and incite instability.

The president said young Egyptians who did not live through the 2011 unrest are especially vulnerable, adding that those who experienced that period bear responsibility for protecting today’s youth from destabilizing digital content.

El-Sisi stressed that security measures alone are not enough, calling for coordinated action across state institutions to strengthen what he described as “intellectual security” and raise public awareness of digital threats that could undermine social stability.
