US returns to Cairo International Book Fair after five-year absence

The United States officially launched its participation in the 57th Cairo International Book Fair on Thursday, marking its return to the event for the first time since 2019, as part of efforts to promote cultural exchange and showcase American literature and innovation.

Chargé d’Affaires Evyenia Sidereas officially kicked off the United States’ participation in the 57th Cairo International Book Fair on Thursday by touring the fair and visiting the US embassy booth.  

During her visit, Chargé d’affaires Evyenia Sidereas noted, “We are delighted to be back at the Fair for the first time since 2019”. 

Sidereas added, “The fair is about more than just books; it is about displaying the very best of our literary, historic, and artistic cultures and building bridges between our societies. We are excited to be able to showcase American literature and innovation at this global literary platform.” 

 The US embassy booth features a selection of American books translated into Arabic, along with interactive activities that introduce visitors to American culture.

The booth will also feature daily presentations by US diplomats and exchange program alumni, virtual reality tours of American cities, and information sessions on exchange programs and English language training.

The US embassy’s participation in the Cairo International Book Fair coincides with the United States’ year-long celebration of the 250th anniversary of its founding. It offers a platform to showcase how American literature continues to inspire readers and foster dialogue across cultures.
