The White Knights are currently in fifth place in the league standings with 22 points, trailing fourth-placed Wadi Degla by a single point and sitting 10 points behind leaders Ceramica Cleopatra.

The Cairo giants are hoping to rediscover their winning form, after enduring two consecutive 1-1 draws against Ghazl El-Mahalla and NBE Club, followed by a 3-1 victory over Talae El-Geish prior to the 86-day hiatus due to the Egyptian national team's participation in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) in Morocco.

Zamalek enter the game on the back of a frustrating goalless draw against fellow Egyptian side Masry in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage on Sunday, where the squad have been depleted by injuries to several influential first-team players.

It has been a turbulent season for the White Knights both on and off the pitch, with inconsistent performances being compounded by managerial instability and financial crises, leading to multiple FIFA-imposed transfer bans.

Following the resignation of coach Ahmed Abdel-Raouf last December, the club appointed former player Motamed Gamal as interim coach on 7 January.

Gamal, who has served three previous stints on the technical staff, recently led the side to a 2-0 win over Masry in the Egyptian Capital Cup, though they were ultimately eliminated from that tournament.

The pressure remains high on Gamal, who must navigate Wednesday's fixture without the injured quartet of Abdallah El-Said, Ahmed Fatouh, Mahmoud Gehad, and Ahmed Rabea.

However, he will be boosted by the return of midfielder Nabil ‘Dunga’ Emad and veteran skipper Omar Gaber, both of whom have recovered from their respective knocks.

On the other hand, Petrojet coach Sayed Eid will be looking to maintain his team's momentum.

Before the break, Petrojet secured a league win over Haras El-Hodoud, and fought to a thrilling 2-2 draw against Pyramids FC, and advanced in the Egypt Cup.

The petroleum side, who currently sit 10th in the table with 19 points, will have to cope without Palestinian midfielder Hamed Hemdan, who completed a move to Pyramids FC during the current winter transfer window.

Historically, Zamalek hold a commanding advantage in head-to-head encounters, having won 16 of the 29 previous meetings, with seven matches ending in draws.
