The announcement came with tensions soaring between arch-foes Washington and Tehran as President Donald Trump has not ruled out military intervention over Iran's deadly crackdown on protests.

Trump designated the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a powerful military body answering to the supreme leader,  a terrorist organization in 2019.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said the three men, all former IRGC members, were deported on Monday.

"The American people deserve a safe and secure homeland, free from the threat of foreign terrorism," said DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin.

A DHS statement identified the men as Ehsan Khaledi, Mohammad Mehrani, and Morteza Nasirikakolaki, saying they all separately entered the United States illegally in 2024.

It did not elaborate on their alleged involvement in the IRGC or what they were doing in the United States.
