In a statement, the foreign ministry said it hoped the ceasefire and the understanding to launch a phased integration process would pave the way for inclusive political dialogue encompassing all segments of Syrian society without exclusion.
Cairo welcomed the agreement as a potential turning point for the war-torn country, stressing that any settlement must include representatives from across Syria’s diverse population.
The statement said the ceasefire should contribute to strengthening state unity, enhancing security and stability, and preserving Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Egypt reiterated its longstanding position in support of Syria’s unity and national institutions.
It also underlined the importance of establishing sustainable security for all Syrians, protecting citizens’ rights, strengthening national cohesion, and safeguarding the country’s natural resources.
The ministry further stressed the need to combat terrorism in all its forms as essential to restoring stability and improving humanitarian conditions across Syria.
It also reaffirmed the country’s rejection of any external interference or aggression that threatens the country’s unity or territorial integrity.
Egypt reaffirmed its support for all efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive and sustainable political settlement that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people for security, stability and development, and supports the country’s recovery and reconstruction.
The agreement, announced by both the SDF and Syrian state television on Friday, follows an understanding earlier this month on the future of the majority-Kurdish areas of Hasakeh and Kobane.
The new deal "seeks to unify Syrian territory and achieve the full integration" of the Kurdish-majority region.
The agreement allows the Syrian army to take control of three eastern and northern governorates, previously held by the SDF.
