Larijani’s comments followed his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss ways to de-escalate tensions with the United States in Moscow on Friday.

The Iranian official's remarks come amid regional escalation after the United States deployed a war fleet carrier, led by the USS Abraham Lincoln, toward Iran, and threatened to carry out military strikes against the country.

For its part, Tehran has vowed to respond to any US or Israeli aggression against the country but stressed its readiness to negotiate a diplomatic resolution to the conflict with Washington.

On Friday, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, speaking alongside Turkish officials in Ankara, said Iran is prepared to engage in talks on “equal footing and mutual respect,” emphasizing that the country’s nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.
