Egypt defence minister reviews armed forces readiness with senior commanders

General Abdel Mageed Saqr, commander-in-chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces and minister of defence and military production, met with senior commanders and officers from the Central Military Zone to assess readiness and discuss ways to improve armed forces performance, the military spokesperson said on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, commanders of the main service branches, and senior military leaders. It forms part of ongoing efforts by the armed forces to review internal operations and ensure preparedness to carry out national duties, the statement said.

During the meeting, several commanders gave briefings on recent regional and security developments, current challenges, and the armed forces’ efforts to protect Egypt’s national security.

The discussions also covered internal working methods and plans to modernize and develop military capabilities in response to rapid changes in military technology.

In his remarks, Saqr conveyed the greetings and appreciation of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, the supreme commander of the armed forces, and praised the role of servicemen in defending the country and safeguarding its resources.

He stressed the need for commanders and officers at all levels to maintain a high level of readiness, give priority to the welfare of personnel as the foundation of the armed forces, and ensure that units can carry out their assigned tasks effectively and with strong morale.

General Saqr also emphasized the importance of remaining alert amid current challenges to protect Egypt’s security and territorial integrity.
