The announcement followed a meeting in which the EFA discussed a range of issues, including preparations for the Egyptian national team ahead of this summer’s World Cup, as well as the association’s long-term plans through 2038.
As part of its preparations, Egypt will face Saudi Arabia in a friendly on March 26, followed by a match against Spain four days later.
In June, the Pharaohs will also take on Brazil just before the World Cup.
During the meeting, the EFA presented Egypt’s bid for either the 2032 or 2036 AFCON, at the request of the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced last month that it would adopt a four-year cycle for the Africa Cup of Nations starting with the 2028 edition.
Egypt has previously hosted the continental tournament five times: in 1959, 1974, 1986, 2006, and 2019.
