Saudi club Al-Najma announced on Tuesday the signing of Zamalek midfielder Nabil Emad, finalising the move in the closing hours of the winter transfer window as the Cairo side continues efforts to ease mounting financial pressure.

Zamalek confirmed Emad’s departure and thanked the player for his time at the club. FilGoal.com reported that Zamalek will receive $1 million, including incentives, with the midfielder waiving his outstanding dues, a move expected to slightly reduce the club’s financial burden as they seek solutions to their ongoing crisis.

The 29-year-old underwent a medical examination in Cairo before signing a one-and-a-half-season contract with Al-Najma, FilGoal.com said. His contract with Zamalek had been due to expire at the end of next season.

Zamalek signed Emad in the summer of 2022 from Pyramids. During his spell with the White Knights, he won the Egypt Cup, the CAF Confederation Cup and the CAF Super Cup.

The transfer comes as Zamalek offload players amid financial difficulties and transfer-related restrictions. During the current winter window, Nasser Maher joined Pyramids for a transfer fee, while Salah El-Din Mossadak and Abdel Hamid Maali unilaterally terminated their contracts and moved to Wydad and Ittihad Tanger, respectively, due to unpaid dues.

Al-Najma currently sit bottom of the Saudi league table with five points.
