In a statement, the ERC said efforts included receiving and seeing off Palestinian wounded and patients at the Rafah border crossing, accompanying them through procedures, providing psychological assistance for children, and distributing hot meals.
According to the ERC, the 135th convoy carried comprehensive humanitarian assistance, including food parcels and flour, relief and personal care supplies, as well as fuel to keep hospitals and vital facilities operational in the Strip.
As part of its winter response to alleviate harsh weather conditions and freezing temperatures in Gaza, the aid included 13,920 winter clothing items, 24,890 blankets, 970 tarpaulins, and over 11,260 tents to shelter displaced families in Gaza.
The Egyptian aid convoy comes as the Rafah crossing has reopened from the Palestinian side last week, for the first time since May 2024, as part of the implementation of the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire deal, signed in October during Sharm El-Sheikh peace summit.
Since the outbreak of Israel’s war on Gaza, the ERC has served as Egypt’s primary mechanism for coordinating, receiving, and delivering humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip.
Working in coordination with Egyptian authorities, the United Nations (UN), and international partners, the ERC has managed the sustained flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza through the Rafah and Karm Abu Salem crossings despite severe access restrictions.
Since October 2023, Egypt has delivered more than 800,000 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza, representing around 70 percent of all aid sent to the strip, supported by a nationwide logistics network and a volunteer force exceeding 65,000 persons.
