Abdelatty is leading the delegation on behalf of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi during the event, which brings together African heads of state and government to deliberate on the continent's most pressing political, security, and developmental challenges.

Abdelatty's speech will focus on the state of peace and security across the continent in light of Egypt's current chairmanship of the AU Peace and Security Council (PSC) for February 2026, according to a statement from the Egyptian foreign ministry.

The minister will present a comprehensive review of the African Union PSC’s activities and ongoing efforts to resolve regional conflicts.

He will also present the president's report on post-conflict reconstruction and development, which emphasizes supporting nations as they transition from instability toward sustainable peace and economic growth.

The Egyptian delegation will also highlight the progress of the NEPAD Steering Committee to showcase advancements in regional infrastructure and economic integration, the statement added.

Beyond security concerns, the summit is addressing broader strategic goals, including the activation of the African Union's membership in the G20 and the urgent need for United Nations Security Council reform to ensure fair representation for the continent.

Leaders are also coordinating responses to climate change, pandemic preparedness, and institutional reforms designed to make the Union more responsive to the aspirations of African citizens for long-term prosperity.

The 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union opened Saturday in Addis Ababa with a high-level dialogue on health Workforce, community Health and immunization.

Participants will convene over two days (14–15 February) to explore ways to enhance continental cooperation and better coordinate efforts among member states, with particular emphasis on advancing economic, political, and social integration.

Also participating in the summit are António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations; Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League; and the summit's guest of honour, Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy.
