The arrests followed a report received by authorities on Thursday after videos depiting the incident circulated on social media platforms.
According to the ministry statement, the suspects confessed to assaulting the victim, a worker, causing bruises and abrasions, forcing him to wear women’s clothing, climb onto a chair, and filming the incident on their mobile phones in the street near his home
Investigators say the incident stemmed from personal disputes related to his romantic relationship with the daughter of one of the women involved.
Separately, the Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) ordered the removal of the video from websites and required electronic platforms and press and media outlets to stop circulating it, citing harm to the young man’s dignity.
In a statement, the SCMR said its decision came after it detected details in the circulated video that incite violence and violate values of Egyptian society.
