Speaking to Ahram Online, Minister El-Hefny explained that long-haul flights to Los Angeles could not start with only one Airbus A350, which is capable of covering such distances.
“Once the second aircraft is delivered by the end of April or early May, EgyptAir will begin the direct flights, serving the large Egyptian community in Los Angeles and attracting tourists from the western United States,” the minister said.

He added that the airline plans further expansion once additional aircraft are delivered, with Chicago as the next US destination, followed by routes to Asia, including China. By the end of 2026 and during 2027, EgyptAir will add 28 new aircraft to its fleet, 10 Airbus A350 and 18 Boeing 737 MAX planes, with an additional six Airbus A350 scheduled for delivery by 2030.
On Saturday, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly attended a ceremony at Terminal 4 of Cairo International Airport to mark the delivery of EgyptAir’s first Airbus A350, alongside El-Hefny and EgyptAir Holding Company Chairman Ahmed Adel.
El-Hefny said the presence of PM Madbouly at the delivery ceremony of the new aircraft reflects the government’s strong support for Egypt’s civil aviation sector.
He stressed the state’s goal of increasing tourist arrivals, whether on Egyptian or foreign carriers, and ensuring that Egyptian airports can handle this growth while providing a comfortable travel experience.
Regarding operational readiness, El-Hefny confirmed that for each new aircraft, EgyptAir trains a sufficient number of pilots on its systems and capabilities, prepares cabin crews to deliver high-quality passenger service, and equips maintenance engineers and technicians to meet all technical requirements.
On airport development, the minister noted that Prime Minister Madbouly emphasizes maintaining the highest standards across Egypt’s airport network, using the latest global technologies.
Eleven airports have been offered for private-sector management and operation, starting with Hurghada Airport, he said.
According to El-Hefny, 74 companies requested the tender documents, and 64 formally submitted proposals, which are under review. The deadline for submissions, originally set for 12 February, was extended by one month to allow additional review of the applications.
