President El-Sisi swears in 20 new governors in broad provincial reshuffle

Egypt appointed on Monday new governors for 20 of the country’s 27 governorates, with the appointees sworn in before President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi at the presidential palace in Cairo.

The reshuffle transferred seven sitting governors to new postings and introduced 13 new provincial chiefs, while seven governors retained their posts, including the governor of the capital, Cairo.

Among those reassigned, Mohamed El-Zamlout moved from New Valley to Matrouh, Ahmed Abdullah El-Ansari from Fayoum to Giza, Ibrahim Ahmed Ibrahim Shahawi Abu Lamoun from Menoufiya to Port Said, and Mohamed Hany Gamal El-Din Ghoneim from Beni Suef to Fayoum.

Alaa Ibrahim Abdel-Moaty Ahmed was transferred from Kafr El-Sheikh to Gharbia, Ismail Mohamed Kamal Ismail from Aswan to South Sinai, and Ayman Mohamed Ibrahim Attia from Qalyoubia to Alexandria.

Newly appointed governors included Hanan Magdy Nour El-Din in New Valley, Hossam El-Din Fawzy Abdel-Fattah Abu Seif in Damietta, and Amr Helmy Hassan Lashin in Aswan.

Other appointments were Nabil El-Sayed Hasaballah in Ismailia, Amr Mohamed El-Sayed El-Gharib in Menoufiya, Ibrahim Abdel-Qader Makki Mahgoub in Kafr El-Sheikh, Hany Rashad Ali El-Sayed in Suez, Mostafa Selim Amin Abdel-Zaher El-Biblawy in Qena, Tarek Rashed Mohamed Mahfouz in Sohag, Mohamed Sayed Hassan Alwan in Assiut, Abdullah Abdel-Aziz Abdel-Rahman El-Sayed in Beni Suef, Hossam El-Din Ahmed Abdel-Fattah Mohamed Ali in Qalyoubia, and Walid Abdel-Azim Ibrahim Al-Barqi in the Red Sea.

Greater Cairo and Nile Delta

Ahmed El-Ansari was appointed governor of Giza, replacing Adel Said El-Naggar, while Hossam El-Din Ahmed Abdel-Fattah replaced Ayman Attia in Qalyoubia.

Amr El-Gharib became governor of Menoufiya, replacing Ibrahim Shahawi.

Alaa Abdel-Moaty took over Gharbia from Ashraf El-Gendy, and Ibrahim Abdel-Qader Mahgoub replaced him in Kafr El-Sheikh.

Hossam Abu Seif replaced Ayman Mohamed Rashad El-Shehabi in Damietta.

Canal zone

Ibrahim Shahawi was named governor of Port Said, replacing Moheb Habashi, while Nabil Hasaballah replaced Akram Mohamed Galal in Ismailia.

Hany Rashad became governor of Suez, replacing Tarek Hamed El-Shazly.

Upper Egypt

Mohamed Ghoneim became governor of Fayoum, replacing Ahmed El-Ansari, while Abdullah Abdel-Aziz El-Sayed replaced him in Beni Suef.

Mohamed Alwan replaced Hisham Aboul Nasr in Assiut.

Tarek Rashed replaced Abdel-Fattah Serag in Sohag, Mostafa El-Biblawy replaced Khaled Abdel-Aal in Qena, and Amr Lashin replaced Ismail Mohamed Kamal in Aswan.

Mediterranean and Red Sea Coast

Ayman Attia was appointed governor of Alexandria, replacing Ahmed Khaled Said.

Mohamed El-Zamlout replaced Khaled Shuaib in Matrouh, and Walid Al-Barqi replaced Amr Hanafi in the Red Sea.

Hanan Magdy replaced El-Zamlout in New Valley, while Ismail Mohamed Kamal replaced Khaled Mubarak in South Sinai.

Governorates unchanged

Seven governorates retained their current governors: Cairo, Ibrahim Saber; Dakahliya, Tareq Marzouk; Sharqiya, Hazem El-Ashmouni; Beheira, Jacqueline Azer; North Sinai, Khaled Mujawar; Luxor, Abdel-Muttalib Mamdouh; and Minya, Emad Ahmed Mahmoud Kedwani.

The reshuffle also included the appointment of deputy governors in several governorates, including Cairo, Sohag, Aswan, New Valley, Dakahliya, Alexandria, Gharbia, Minya, Beheira, Suez, and Damietta.

The provincial overhaul comes days after El-Sisi swore in 23 cabinet members in a wide-ranging government reshuffle.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad attended the ceremony.
