Kuwait, Bahrain, Yemen, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, Somalia and Sudan also confirmed they will begin Ramadan on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Egypt, Jordan and Syria said the holy month will start on Thursday, alongside Oman, Turkey, Tunisia, Algeria and Libya. Indonesia and Malaysia also announced Ramadan will begin on Thursday.
The start of Ramadan can differ between countries due to variations in moon-sighting methods, with some relying on local crescent sightings and others using astronomical calculations or regional confirmations. Such differences often lead to the holy month beginning on different days across parts of the Muslim world.
During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, gather for communal prayers, and increase acts of charity and reflection. The holy month is also marked by special meals, family gatherings, and iftar invitations shared with loved ones.
