The committee will develop initiatives and work with the private sector and Egypt’s Industrial Modernization Centre (IMC) to strengthen the local industrial sector.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the committee will connect university and research centre findings with industrial applications, including expanding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and other technologies.

The IMC provides technical support, development guidance, and training to improve quality and productivity in Egypt’s industrial and manufacturing sectors.

The committee is also part of a new phase for the IMC, aimed at speeding up procedures, simplifying organizational processes, and delivering practical results, Industry Minister Khaled Hashem said during a meeting on the IMC’s plans. Hashem has recently replaced Kamel Al-Wazir as minister of industry in the most recent cabinet reshuffle, following the ministry’s separation from the transport portfolio.

The industrial sector is one of Egypt’s five priority sectors under its new economic development narrative, which aims to raise the sector’s contribution to GDP from 14 percent to 20 percent by 2030.

Egypt has been boosting industrial localization, signing agreements to establish manufacturing complexes, and encouraging international firms and investors to expand operations, particularly in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

These efforts aim to reduce imports, achieve an annual foreign direct investment target of $24.6 billion, reach total exports of $145 billion by 2030, a 7.5 percent increase, and raise non-oil exports by 15–20 percent each year.

Egypt is also integrating AI through its National AI Strategy for 2025–2030 and its Digital Transformation Strategy. These initiatives aim to increase AI’s contribution to GDP to 7.7 percent by 2030 and expand AI literacy among government employees and the public.
