According to the Egyptian cabinet, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, who attended the launch, affirmed that the “Abwab Al-Khair” initiative was launched in implementation of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to roll it out nationwide.

Madbouly stressed that the initiative represents a focused and intensive form of social protection on the ground that touches the daily lives of the most vulnerable groups.

Madbouly added that the value of the initiative lies not only in the volume of assistance it provides, but also in the philosophy that governs it, emphasizing that providing food is not a fleeting act of charity, but rather reflects a comprehensive social protection approach to help citizens in need.

The Egyptian PM highlighted the government’s cooperation with national funds, civil society organizations, and volunteers as a model of partnership, integration, and solidarity worthy of study, underscoring the Egyptian civil society’s ability to carry out rapid and effective outreach.

He also referred to other initiatives, including the National Alliance for Civil Development Work’s preparation of more than 250 charity iftar tables, “Mawa’ed Al-Rahman,” and the equipping of over 150 kitchens through the “Athar Al-Khair” initiative, benefiting 14 million citizens, as well as the “Egypt at One Table” nationwide event at the end of Ramadan.

During the launching ceremony, Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsy affirmed that the initiative reflects the Egyptian state’s commitment to caring for the most vulnerable families.

Morsy added that the ministry aims to provide more than 70 million hot meals and distribute over 5.5 million food boxes through ongoing convoys reaching the most needy in all governorates during Ramadan, via several initiatives, foremost among them “Abwab Al-Khair.”

She also highlighted that “Ahl Al-Khair” initiative and “Al-Mahrousa” kitchens provide more than 60 million iftar and suhur meals during Ramadan.

For his part, Tahya Misr’s Executive Director, Tamer Abdel-Fattah, stressed that “Abwab Al-Khair” embodies a model of successful partnership among all parties involved in community work, including government, civil society, and the private sector.

He added that the initiative will distribute three million boxes of dry food items and hundreds of tons of poultry and meat to prepare four million hot meals through kitchens affiliated with the Fund and the Social Solidarity Ministry.

Abdel-Fattah noted that the initiative is rolled out through a series of convoys to be launched in all governorates for distribution to eligible beneficiaries.

According to the Egyptian Cabinet, “Abwab Al-Khair” is partnering with the National Council for Women to distribute 15,000 food boxes to female breadwinners.

It is also partnering with the Civil Society Support Fund (CSF) to distribute 40,000 food boxes to 36,000 families in alternative housing projects in developed areas, as well as to families of the wounded and martyrs from Gaza.

Additionally, 13,000 food boxes will be distributed to female social pioneers affiliated with the Social Solidarity Ministry, and 8,000 boxes to families in Hemeithra village in the Red Sea Governorate.

Furthermore, the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) will distribute 45,000 food boxes to the most vulnerable groups through its 27 branches nationwide, while continuing its national and humanitarian role under the “Hilal Al-Khair” campaign, targeting 6.5 million beneficiaries inside Egypt as well as Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The ERC's “Humanitarian Kitchen” also provides iftar meals for travellers in Arish, Rafah, and Sheikh Zuweid, in addition to the “Ramadan Humanitarian Kitchen,” which delivers more than one million iftar meals to Palestinians in Gaza during Ramadan.

During the ceremony, an outlet of the Tahya Misr Fund was also inaugurated to distribute 9,000 food boxes to workers in the government district of the New Capital, including auxiliary service staff as well as security and maintenance personnel.
