Abdelatty underscored the principles of prior notification, consultation, the avoidance of harm, and the rejection of unilateral measures, reaffirming Cairo’s support for the Nile Basin Initiative and the ongoing consultative process aimed at restoring inclusiveness among member states.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to continued coordination with South Sudan to enhance prospects for consensus, safeguard the river’s sustainability, protect its environment, and maximise its resources as a source of cooperation and shared development for Nile Basin countries.
Abdelatty also expressed Egypt’s support for efforts to promote security and stability in South Sudan, describing the move as reflective of the close ties between the two countries and their shared interests.
According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty and Kumba discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations, advance ongoing cooperation frameworks, and strengthen the pace of coordination and consultation between both countries.
The top diplomats’ meeting comes a day after the Head of Egypt's General Intelligence Service Hassan Rashad received a high-level delegation, led aded by the Security Advisor of the President of South Sudan Tut Galwak.
Rashad stressed the importance of bilateral and multilateral cooperation with South Sudan, particularly on Nile water issues, and called for resolving regional crises through peaceful means.
