In a statement, Hamas called the attack “a blatant assault on the sovereignty of an independent state and a flagrant violation of international norms and laws,” warning that it threatens regional and global peace and security.

The group praised Khamenei’s record, saying he had supported the Palestinian people and their cause “politically, diplomatically, popularly, and militarily” for decades.

Hamas noted that Iran had faced sustained pressure, sanctions, and conspiracies because of its backing for Palestine, Gaza, Jerusalem, and the Al-Aqsa Mosque, including during the recent Israeli genocidal war.

The group held the US administration and the Israeli government fully responsible for “this aggression and heinous crime against the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” as well as for its repercussions on regional stability.

Hamas argued that the attack would inflame further crises and conflicts, serving the “Zionist agendas of expansion, domination, and control.”

The statement concluded with a call on Arab and Muslim countries, along with the international community, to take urgent action to address escalating violations and crimes and work toward ending them across the region.

Palestinian group Islamic Jihad also condemned the killing, describing Khamenei’s assassination as a “war crime” carried out by the US and Israel in a “treacherous and malicious attack.”
