Iran appoints Alireza Arafi to Leadership Council
Alireza Arafi, a cleric member of the Guardian Council, was appointed as the jurist member of Iran’s Leadership Council, ISNA news agency reported.
The Council will assume the duties of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei until the next supreme leader is chosen, a spokesperson for Iran's Expediency Council said on Sunday.
The other two members of the Leadership Council will be Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei.
Khamenei was assassinated in attacks carried out by the United States and Israel on Saturday.
