Egypt’s National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has instructed mobile operators to grant subscribers five free international minutes to call relatives in six Arab countries, the regulator said in a statement.

Each subscriber will be able to use the complimentary minutes to contact Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, according to the statement issued on Sunday.

The move comes as part of the regulator’s efforts to enable citizens to check on family members abroad and maintain communication in light of ongoing regional developments affecting those countries.

The NTRA said it is closely monitoring regional developments and will take any necessary regulatory measures in coordination with mobile operators to ensure citizens continue to receive effective and secure telecommunications services.

Egypt’s foreign ministry said on Saturday it has activated a dedicated WhatsApp hotline to handle inquiries from Egyptian nationals in countries affected by the escalating military confrontation.

A WhatsApp hotline, +201222285800, has been launched to allow citizens in affected countries to communicate directly with consular officials regarding their safety and well-being.

Several Gulf states have reported casualties and material damage from Iranian retaliatory strikes across the region following US-Israeli attacks that killed Iran’s supreme leader and other senior officials.

In Kuwait, the health ministry said one person was killed and 32 others, all foreign nationals, were injured since the start of Iran’s retaliation campaign on Saturday. Health ministry spokesman Abdullah Al-Sanad confirmed the toll on Sunday.

The United Arab Emirates reported three deaths and 58 injuries as Iranian missile and drone attacks targeted sites across the country.

According to the UAE defence ministry, 165 ballistic missiles were detected, of which 152 were destroyed, alongside the interception of two cruise missiles.

Authorities said 541 drones were identified, of which 506 were intercepted and destroyed. The fatalities included nationals of Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh.

In Qatar, the interior ministry said 16 people were injured, with limited structural damage reported in some areas. Bahrain’s state media said air defences intercepted at least 45 missiles and nine drones overnight, with smoke seen rising near central Manama.

In Oman, a security source told the Oman News Agency that two drones targeted the Duqm commercial port. One struck a mobile workers’ accommodation unit, injuring a foreign worker, while debris from the second fell near fuel tanks without causing casualties.

Omani authorities later said an oil tanker was targeted off the coast; its crew was evacuated, and four members were injured.
