The ministry said the crude oil tanker Ramsis, owned by the Egyptian Petroleum Tanker Company, struck the offshore platform SG300 amid adverse weather conditions and high winds.

Operations at the platform were immediately suspended, and the facility was fully isolated as a precautionary measure to prevent any potential leakage, the ministry said. An aerial survey of the area was conducted to verify the site’s safety and ensure no damage had occurred.

Follow-up assessments confirmed that no human casualties were recorded and that no environmental pollution occurred as a result of the incident.

Preliminary findings indicated that strong winds prevented the tanker from entering the Ras Gharib berth at its scheduled time. In line with maritime procedures, the vessel headed to a designated open waiting area for ships.

However, while anchoring, it drifted due to wind and sea currents before colliding with the platform, the ministry added.

The ministry said technical and legal investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances and causes of the accident and to take the necessary measures.
