In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the embassy said the exceptional measure enables Egyptian nationals entering through land ports to receive a visa on arrival and travel onward from airports in Saudi cities back to Egypt.
The step comes as airspace closures across the Middle East have left thousands of travellers stranded following coordinated US and Israeli strikes on Iran and subsequent retaliatory attacks.
EgyptAir has suspended flights from Cairo to nearly a dozen destinations in the region until further notice, including Kuwait, Dubai, Doha, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Dammam, Erbil, Baghdad, Amman, and Beirut.
Other regional carriers have also adjusted operations. Emirates and flydubai have rerouted or rescheduled services to avoid closed airspace, while Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways have suspended or diverted selected flights. Royal Jordanian and Iraqi Airways also reported disruptions.
Iran, Israel, Iraq, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates have announced partial or full airspace closures in recent days, cutting off key aviation corridors linking the Gulf, the Levant, and parts of Europe and Asia.
Egypt’s Ministry of Civil Aviation said the country’s airspace remains open and operating at normal capacity, adding that authorities are prepared to receive flights diverted from neighbouring states as the conflict continues to disrupt regional travel.
