According to the Egyptian Presidency, President El-Sisi stressed to his Cypriot counterpart Egypt’s consistent position advocating the peaceful resolution of crises.

During the call, El-Sisi also reaffirmed to Christodoulides Cairo's support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of states.

On Monday, an Iranian-made unmanned drone reportedly struck the runway at the British air force base at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus shortly after London announced its intentions to allow the United States limited access to its bases for "defensive purposes, in the war against Iran.

The attack on Cyprus threatened to drag the eastern Mediterranean island into a wider conflict amid the US/Israeli war on Iran and Iran's retaliatory attacks on US bases and US-linked interests in Arab Gulf countries.

The incident prompted a broader European mobilization aimed at strengthening defences and supporting Cyprus.

Egypt and Cyprus, alongside Greece, have developed a startegic partnership for economic collaboration in the eastern Mediterranean the past decade.

During the call, the Egyptian president also expressed Egypt’s full solidarity with Arab countries and its firm rejection of any attacks against them.

For his part, Christodoulides praised Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate the situation and expressed his country’s keenness to maintain close consultation with Cairo on regional developments and ways to reduce tensions.

Both leaders also stressed the importance of adhering to the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip and implementing its second phase, including ensuring the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid and accelerating the launch of early recovery and reconstruction efforts.

The call also reviewed ways to strengthen the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus, as well as cooperation between Egypt and the European Union, in light of Cyprus currently holding the rotating presidency of the EU Council.

The two presidents discussed expanding cooperation in the fields of energy, trade, and investment.
