In a statement issued on Sunday, the CPA said that Ezz Elarab Automotive has recalled Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler vehicles manufactured between 2003 and 2016, while Al-Mansour Automotive has recalled Opel vehicles manufactured between 2007 and 2019.

The defect may affect the airbags’ performance, potentially posing a serious risk to drivers and passengers. In some cases, it could lead to severe accidents, serious injuries, or even death, the CPA said.

The CPA urged all owners of these models to visit authorized service centres nationwide promptly to have their airbags replaced free of charge. Owners will also receive a complimentary oil and oil filter change.

Services will be provided by appointment to ensure efficient operations, following approved standards and a schedule that guarantees safe and timely completion.

Owners can verify their 17-digit chassis number through the official website (recall.stellantis.com) and contact the companies’ hotlines, 16424 for Al-Mansour Automotive and 19399 for Ezz Elarab Automotive, for the necessary procedures.

According to the statement, the CPA had previously received official notifications from both companies confirming the defect and providing technical details, prompting precautionary measures to ensure swift action.

The recall demonstrates the two companies’ commitment to quality standards, the safety of vehicles in the market, and compliance with the Consumer Protection Law.

The CPA affirmed it will continue its regulatory role, closely monitoring such cases and safeguarding consumer rights while ensuring the safety and quality of goods and services in the Egyptian market.

It stressed that suppliers are obliged to report potential risks immediately and take corrective action once defects are discovered, promoting transparency and public safety.

Founded in 1933, Takata is a Japanese company specializing in car safety components, including seat belts and airbags.

According to Reuters, over the past decade, more than 100 million vehicles equipped with Takata airbag inflators have been recalled globally, including 67 million in the United States, the largest recall in the country’s history.

Since 2009, hundreds of injuries have been reported from Takata airbag inflators exploding, sending metal shrapnel inside vehicles and causing serious harm or death to drivers and passengers.
