The convoy, part of the Zad El-Ezza: From Egypt to Gaza initiative launched last July, includes more than 86,865 food parcels, 250 tonnes of flour, 260 tonnes of relief and hygiene supplies, and 800 tonnes of fuel, according to the organization.
The aid shipment comes after Israel reopened the Karm Abu Salem crossing on Tuesday, days after closing all border crossings with Gaza for what it called “necessary security measures” as it launched a war on Iran on 28 February.
The Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, however, remains closed after operating for nearly a month, during which wounded Palestinians and patients were allowed to enter Egypt for treatment, and some Gazans, displaced to Egypt during the genocidal war, were able to return to the enclave.
Since October 2023, Egypt has delivered more than 800,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Gaza, accounting for about 70 percent of all assistance entering the territory, according to the ERC. The deliveries have been supported by more than 65,000 volunteers from the organization.
Meanwhile, Israel’s war on Gaza has continued despite a ceasefire agreement brokered by Egypt, the United States, Qatar, and Turkey in October.
Since then, Israeli forces have killed at least 640 Palestinians, bringing the total death toll since the outbreak of the war to over 72,126, most of them women and children, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
