The embassy of Indonesia in Cairo participated in the “Saharat Ramadaniyah 2026” event held at the Cairo Opera House’s Small Hall on Wednesday.
Indonesia’s participation in this prestigious cultural event is part of its cultural diplomacy efforts and its commitment to strengthening friendly relations with Egypt.
During the event, Indonesia presented a cultural performance entitled “Journey to Indonesia,” performed by the Indonesian student arts group in Egypt. The show featured choreography inspired by traditional Indonesian dances, creative artistic compositions, and an impressive visual display reflecting the richness and diversity of Indonesian culture.
The evening was attended by a distinguished audience, including friends of Indonesia from various sectors, including ministry officials, business leaders, cultural figures, journalists, members of the Indonesia Lovers Association, and students from the Indonesian Cultural Centre and the Indonesian Language Programme at Al-Azhar University.

In his remarks, the ambassador of Indonesia to Egypt, Kuncoro Giri Waseso, expressed appreciation to the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and the Cairo Opera House for providing Indonesia the opportunity to take part in this year’s Ramadan cultural series. He emphasized that cultural cooperation is a key pillar in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, whose ties are deeply rooted in education, religion, and socio-cultural exchange.
“Indonesia is an archipelagic nation stretching over 5,000 kilometers—comparable to the distance from Morocco to Saudi Arabia—across three different time zones and comprising more than 17,000 islands. With a population of over 280 million people, Indonesia is home to more than 1,340 ethnic groups speaking 718 local languages. This diversity has given rise to more than 3,000 traditional dances and 1,728 elements of intangible cultural heritage spread throughout the country,” Waseso added.

Indonesia’s participation in “Saharat Ramadaniyah 2026” is expected to promote Indonesian culture among the Egyptian public and open broader opportunities for future cultural collaboration.
The Indonesian embassy in Cairo also hopes the event will encourage more Egyptians to visit Indonesia and experience its natural beauty and vibrant cultural diversity firsthand.
The “Saharat Ramadaniyah 2026” event, which concluded on 7 March, featured artistic shows by other countries, including Palestine, Tunisia, and Iraq.
